Rental Assistance Scheme Records 99% Recovery Rate – Housing Minister

The Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has described the National Rental Assistance Scheme as a major success since its launch in 2023, citing strong uptake and an impressive recovery performance.
According to the minister, the programme has so far supported more than 4,732 Ghanaians, recording a 99 percent recovery rate.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, Mr. Adjei said the initiative is easing housing pressures for beneficiaries while ensuring the efficient use of public funds.
The scheme provides rent advances to eligible Ghanaians and is currently being piloted in six regions; Greater Accra, Bono East, Northern, Eastern, Western and Ashanti. In 2025 alone, 2,031 individuals benefited from the programme, bringing the cumulative total since its inception to 4,732.
Mr. Adjei disclosed that the scheme was launched with GH₵27 million in seed funding, which has grown significantly through repayments and interest.
“At its inception, the scheme received GH₵27 million in seed funding. Over time, both principal and interest have rolled over, resulting in GH₵71.7 million now available, demonstrating the scheme’s financial sustainability,” he noted.
The sector Minister stressed that the near-perfect recovery rate reflects the effectiveness of the programme and strengthens the case for its expansion.
“The eligibility criteria, application process and beneficiaries’ success stories all point to the scheme’s impact in addressing housing needs. Government is therefore preparing to scale it up nationwide across all 16 regions in the short to medium term,” Mr Adjei stated.
