One dead, 3 injured in Metro Mass robbery attack near Nakpanduri
A Metro Mass Transit bus travelling from Bunkpurugu to Tamale came under attack by armed robbers in the early hours of Friday, 10 October 2025.
The incident left one person dead and three others with gunshot injuries.
The incident occurred around 2:27 a.m. on the Duuklotuk to Nakpanduri stretch of the highway.
According to eyewitnesses, the attackers attempted to stop the moving bus using torchlights. Sensing danger, the driver refused to halt, prompting the gunmen to open fire on the vehicle.
“They didn’t block the road with any object. They used torchlights to stop the bus, and when the driver didn’t stop, they started shooting at the back. The area wasn’t near any community,” one passenger told reporters.
The injured were rushed to Faith Community Hospital in Nakpanduri for treatment.
Survivors expressed growing concern over the regular early-morning departures of buses on this route, which they say expose passengers to increased risks of robbery and ambush.
