Japan, South Korea to test Black Stars’ World Cup readiness in November friendlies
Ghana’s preparation for the World Cup will require careful planning and opponent selection, given the level of opposition the Black Stars are set to face. The upcoming Asian tour in November is a timely decision that could prove rewarding, as the 2010 World Cup quarter-finalists are on the verge of another historic qualification for next year’s tournament in North America.
The four-time African champions are scheduled to play international friendlies against Japan and South Korea in a thrilling double-header featuring two Asian football giants. Otto Addo’s men will face Japan on 14 November in Toyota during the prestigious Kirin Cup, followed by a match against South Korea on 17 November in Seoul.
Both opponents have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup and are expected to field full-strength squads, providing Ghana with a valuable test ahead of continental and global competitions. The Asian tour is part of the Ghana Football Association’s strategy to keep the team active, competitive, and match-ready.
Currently topping Group I with 22 points after a 5-0 win over the Central African Republic, the Black Stars are focused on the decisive clash against Comoros this Sunday, which could seal their qualification before the Asian tour. A fifth World Cup appearance would be a significant achievement, especially after missing out on the AFCON in Morocco.
