Black Queens bonuses to be settled soon – Sports Minister
It has been four months since the Black Queens thrilled the nation with their spirited performance at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
However, the issue of outstanding bonuses remains a concern, not only for the Black Queens but also for several other national teams, aside from the Black Stars.
The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured that his ministry is working to settle the bonuses owed to the Black Queens. While this is a positive step, further action is needed ahead of the 2026 WAFCON qualifier against Egypt later this month.
The senior women’s national team is still awaiting bonuses for their bronze-medal-winning performance at the 2024 WAFCON, where Ghana finished third after beating South Africa on penalties in the playoff in July.
Mr Adams explained: “Their last bonus has not been paid, not all their bonuses. It is in the process of being worked on. They are not the only ones. Even the U-20 boys have not received their packages.”
The Black Queens, led by Kim Lars Bjorkegren, will face Egypt in the final round of qualifiers, aiming to secure a spot in next year’s tournament, which also serves as a World Cup qualifier.
