Canada pledges $30m to boost TVET in Ghana

Canada has announced a commitment of 30 million Canadian dollars to support Ghana’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative.
The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Myriam Montrat, made the announcement during a courtesy call on the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, in Accra.
She said Canada’s support was aimed at strengthening youth competency-based training and skills development, with the goal of empowering Ghana’s workforce to compete globally.
“Our focus is to support Ghana in developing a skilled workforce that can compete globally,” she noted.
The Education Minister, Mr Iddrisu, expressed appreciation for Canada’s continued assistance to Ghana, particularly in the education sector.
He praised Canada’s role in poverty alleviation and education advancement, describing the partnership as mutually beneficial.
“Canada’s dedication to poverty alleviation and education has been remarkable, and Ghana has greatly benefited from this partnership,” Mr Iddrisu said.
The Minister further underscored the importance of investing in technical education to drive Ghana’s transformation agenda.
“Strengthening technical education and laying a solid foundation for learning are key to Ghana’s educational transformation, and we look forward to deepening this partnership with Canada,” he emphasised.
Mr Iddrisu also called for stronger collaboration between higher education institutions in both countries, emphasising the value of academic exchange and innovation in advancing education.
The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their shared commitment to inclusive, quality education that equips young Ghanaians with the skills needed for the future.
