Afia Schwarzenegger mocks GMA-USA, promises own awards
Ghanaian socialite Afia Schwarzenegger has stirred controversy once again, this time by questioning the credibility of the just-ended Ghana Music Awards USA (GMA-USA) and the victory of gospel singer Empress Gifty.
At the event, held on 16 August 2025, Empress Gifty clinched the ultimate prize, Artiste of the Year, ahead of top contenders including King Promise, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Diana Hamilton, Joe Mettle, Fameye, KiDi, King Paluta and Black Sherif.
However, Afia Schwarzenegger took to Instagram on 19 August 2025 to accuse the organisers and Empress Gifty of allegedly manipulating the results.
“What is there to talk about? Is it the award that they bought or what?” Afia said in the Instagram video.
She went further to mock the scheme, announcing that she intends to launch her own awards in the United States within six months.
According to her, she would crown Patapaa as Artiste of the Year at her event.
“I am also in America, so you people should give me six months and I will organise a music awards where I will give the Artiste of the Year to Patapaa,” Afia added.
