Copyright row forces Shatta Wale albums off streaming platforms
Renowned Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale is embroiled in a copyright controversy after two of his albums, ‘Reign’ and ‘Wonderboy,’ were pulled from major digital streaming platforms.
The removal follows allegations from record producer MOG Beatz, who claims Shatta Wale replaced his name with his own as the producer of about 25 tracks originally created by him and other producers.
According to MOG Beatz, this misrepresentation allowed the musician to allegedly deceive an international company and fraudulently earn millions of cedis.
Verification on Apple Music confirms that both albums are no longer available, highlighting the seriousness of the dispute. The development has sparked wider discussions within Ghana’s music industry about intellectual property rights and the need for transparency in artist–producer collaborations. Industry stakeholders fear that such disputes, if unresolved, could affect the credibility of local acts on the global stage.
