Gov’t to establish sports schools to groom future Ghanaian champions

President John Dramani Mahama has revealed plans to convert selected schools across Ghana into dedicated sports development centers.
The announcement came during a meeting with the Ghana Football Association and the Black Queens, where he stressed the importance of nurturing young athletes alongside their education.
“We will provide these schools with all the necessary sports infrastructure. Our goal is to bring together the best young talents so they can train hard while continuing their studies,” President Mahama said.
This initiative is designed to help promising athletes balance academic work with professional-level training.
It comes after the Black Queens’ impressive third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, their best result since 2016.
