Kotoko plans major squad shake-up ahead of African campaign

Asante Kotoko spokesperson Sarfo Duku says the club will make changes to their squad following a season that ended with FA Cup success under interim coach Karim Zito.

Zito stepped in after Prosper Narteh Ogum was dismissed in the latter part of the campaign. While the league title was already out of reach by then, he managed to guide the team to a 1-0 win over Golden Kick FC in the FA Cup final, securing Kotoko’s 10th title in the competition and a return to continental football.

The team’s overall performance fell below expectations, and club officials believe a fresh approach is needed. Several players are expected to leave as they prepare for both domestic and continental duties in the new season.

“We are going to plan for the African campaign in terms of finances. We will soon make changes to the team. Players who were unable to meet our expectations will be shown the exit door,” Duku told reporters.

He added: “In the next few days, some players will leave the club.”

On Wednesday, Kotoko paid a visit to the Manhyia Palace to present the FA Cup trophy to the club’s life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
