Ghana’s Jonas Adjetey ready to shine on Champions League stage

Ghana international Jonas Adjetey has set his sights on playing Champions League football with FC Basel next season.
The 21-year-old defender played a key role in helping the Swiss side secure their first league title in seven years, as well as the Swiss Cup, completing a domestic double.
These trophies mark the first major honors of Adjetey’s professional career, which required patience and perseverance.
After starting just 11 league games in the previous season, the Ghanaian center-back significantly increased his involvement, appearing in 32 Swiss Super League matches during the 2024/25 campaign.
With the league title secured, FC Basel has earned a spot in the playoff round of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, a crucial stage that provides a gateway to the prestigious group phase.
For Adjetey, the chance to compete on Europe’s biggest stage is a dream come true.
“For me, it’s a great honor to play in the Champions League. We will play a playoff. I just pray we get the win, and then we can fit in [the group phase],” he told Flashscore.
“But for me to play in the Champions League is a very great honor. I always watch the Champions League,” he added.
