Geovany Quenda Former Sporting CP Portuguese player Joins Chelsea
Chelsea has officially completed the signing of 19-year-old Portuguese sensation Geovany Quenda from Sporting CP. The winger has signed a long-term eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge, tying him to West London until June 2034 in a deal worth £40 million.
Though the structural terms were originally agreed upon in March 2025 under Enzo Maresca, the transfer was designed to let the wonderkid finish his blistering developmental cycle in Lisbon before formally joining the Blues this summer.
Quenda arrives in London with one of the most decorated youth resumes in European football. He exploded onto the senior stage under Rúben Amorim, quickly establishing himself as a foundational piece of Sporting’s tactical setup. During his breakthrough 2024/25 campaign, Quenda featured in every single league match, driving the club to a historic domestic double by lifting both the Primeira Liga title and the Taça de Portugal. His explosive pace, progressive dribbling, and maturity earned him the prestigious Liga Portugal Young Player of the Season award.
Beyond domestic silverware, Quenda has consistently shattered records. In August 2024, he scored against Porto in the Portuguese Super Cup to become Sporting’s youngest-ever goalscorer, eclipsing a milestone previously held by Cristiano Ronaldo. He followed that feat by becoming the youngest Portuguese player to score in the UEFA Champions League era during a 4-1 win over Kairat. In total, he departs Lisbon with 86 senior appearances, 9 goals, and 17 assists across all competitions.
The versatile teenager has already landed at the Cobham training ground, bypassing a delayed holiday to integrate immediately into the first team under new manager Xabi Alonso. Capable of operating as an inverted right winger, a central playmaker, or a highly modern wing-back, Quenda gives Alonso immense tactical flexibility.
His arrival marks the second major signing of Chelsea’s summer window, following right-back Marco Palestra, as the club continues to construct an elite, youth-driven squad capable of challenging for European honors.
