MUSIGA Hosts Nigerian Policy Delegation on Creative Economy

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) has hosted a high-level delegation from Nigeria’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, as part of a study tour focused on the development of the creative economy and the role of entrepreneurship in sustainable growth.
The delegation, led by Prof. Dabin Haruna Khitwe, is part of Study Group Five under Senior Executive Course 48. He explained that the Institute conducts annual study tours across selected sectors of governance and the economy at the directive of the President of Nigeria.
“This year’s focus is on The Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development in Nigeria, examining how creativity connects with market opportunities in the global digital age,” Prof. Khitwe stated.
He added that the delegation has already engaged Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts and other agencies, with similar study tours ongoing in other African countries and beyond, after which a comprehensive report will be submitted to Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
MUSIGA President Bessa Simons welcomed the delegation and described the visit as important for strengthening regional cooperation in the creative arts sector. He also raised concerns about challenges facing Ghana’s music industry, including operational issues affecting the Creative Arts Agency.
“We are pleased to host our colleagues from Nigeria, and we believe exchanges like this help strengthen the creative industry across Africa,” he said.
MUSIGA’s Director of Special Projects and Communications, Ahuma Bosco Ocansey, also briefed the delegation on the structure of the Union and its partnerships with international bodies, including the International Federation of Musicians.
The Nigerian delegation included senior military officers, legal experts, academics, engineers, and policymakers, among them Air Commodore Nwankwo Raymond Chibueze, Dr Amaechi Obinna Charles, and Dr Enabulele Osahon.
The visit is expected to deepen cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria in the creative sector and support policy development for the growing orange economy across Africa.
