FDA Seizes 140 Boxes of Banned Alcoholic Energy Drinks in Upper East Region

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has seized 140 boxes of alcoholic beverages mixed with stimulants in the Upper East Region as part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health and enforce food and beverage safety regulations in Ghana.
In a statement issued on Friday, 15 May, the Authority identified the confiscated products as Bel Ice Vodka Energy Drink and Cody’s Vody Energy Mix.
According to the FDA, the products are prohibited in Ghana because of the health risks linked to combining alcohol with stimulants. The Authority explained that such drinks can mask the effects of intoxication, making consumers less aware of the amount of alcohol they have consumed.
The FDA warned that this could lead to excessive drinking and increase the risk of serious health and safety consequences.
“These drinks are banned in Ghana because they mask intoxication, leading to overconsumption and health risks,” the Authority stated.
The FDA said it has intensified monitoring and enforcement activities across the country to remove unapproved and unsafe products from the market and protect consumers.
