EU Reaffirms Commitment to Ghana

The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, has reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Ghana as the bloc celebrated 50 years of physical presence and cooperation in the country.
Speaking at a high level Europe Day Reception held under the theme “Golden Bridges,” Ambassador Skinnebach described the milestone as a celebration of a successful partnership built on shared values, dialogue and cooperation.
“We celebrate a successful partnership built on shared values, dialogue and cooperation, and a partnership we remain committed to strengthening for the benefit of our peoples,” he stated.
The event brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, development partners and private sector representatives to commemorate five decades of EU Ghana relations.
Reflecting on the relationship between Ghana and the European Union, Ambassador Skinnebach said the partnership has evolved into a mature and strategic one anchored on mutual respect, peace, democracy, security and sustainable development.
He noted that the European Union remains Ghana’s leading development and security partner, largest investor and top export market.
The Ambassador also highlighted the EU’s contribution to peace and security in the country and the wider region, revealing that the bloc is implementing more than 30 security initiatives in Ghana valued at over 100 million euros.
According to him, the EU remains committed to supporting regional peace and stability while strengthening economic cooperation and sustainable development initiatives.
The Europe Day Reception was attended by several high profile personalities, including the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, who represented the Government of Ghana.
In her remarks, Dr. Lartey congratulated the European Union and its Member States on the milestone and praised the long standing relationship between Ghana and the EU.
“It is not only a celebration of history, but also a reflection of a partnership that has matured, evolved and deepened over the decades,” she said.
The celebration also showcased Europe’s cultural diversity through culinary experiences from 14 EU Member States.
The anniversary celebration ended with renewed commitments from both Ghana and the European Union to strengthen cooperation and build stronger “golden bridges” for future generations.
