Ghana to Pilot Continental Digital Trade Corridor with Rwanda, Zambia

Ghana is set to lead a new push toward deeper digital trade integration across Africa, with plans to pilot a continental digital trade corridor in partnership with some selected countries.

Speaking at the ongoing 3i Africa Summit 2026 under the theme “The Next Frontier: Shaping Africa’s Integrated Fintech Future,” Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang announced that Ghana will work with countries including Rwanda and Zambia on the initiative.

According to her, the pilot will focus on mobile money interoperability, mutual recognition of digital identity for cross-border KYC processes, and harmonised electronic invoicing systems.

She explained that the project will be implemented, tested and measured to assess its effectiveness in strengthening cross-border financial and trade systems across the continent.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang noted that the outcome of the initiative will be critical in determining whether Africa participates in the global digital economy on its own terms or within frameworks defined elsewhere.

She added that integration will be achieved through systems designed to work consistently across borders and at scale, describing the initiative as a practical step toward Africa’s digital future.
