Mobile Money Surge Boosts MTN Ghana Profit to GH¢7.8bn

Telecommunications giant Scancom PLC, operators of MTN Ghana, has reinforced its dominance in the market after posting a 55.9 per cent surge in profit after tax to GH¢7.8 billion for the 2025 financial year.
The impressive performance comes amid a stabilising macroeconomic environment, with easing inflation and a firmer cedi helping to boost consumer spending and business activity across the country.
According to the company’s audited results, service revenue climbed by 36.2 per cent to GH¢24.4 billion, driven largely by exponential growth in digital services and strong contributions from mobile money and data segments. Digital revenue nearly tripled during the year, underscoring Ghana’s accelerating shift toward a technology-driven economy.
The Board of Directors has recommended a final dividend of GH¢0.40 per share, subject to shareholder approval at the next Annual General Meeting. The proposed payout marks a significant increase from the GH¢0.24 declared the previous year, reflecting confidence in the company’s cash flow strength and forward outlook. If approved, the dividend is expected to be paid on April 10, 2026.
Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett attributed the strong financial performance to sustained investment in infrastructure and focused commercial strategies aimed at enhancing customer experience.
“MTN Ghana reported a strong operational and financial performance for 2025, driven by the significant investment in our network and targeted commercial initiatives that have enhanced the customer experience,” Blewett said.
He also pointed to broader economic improvements as a contributing factor. “These results were achieved in a favourable macroeconomic climate, with subsiding inflation and a strengthened local currency boosting consumer purchasing power,” he noted.
To underpin its growth trajectory, MTN Ghana invested GH¢6.4 billion in capital expenditure during the year, primarily expanding 4G coverage and upgrading network quality. The investment supported a growing subscriber base, with total mobile users rising to 31.2 million and active data subscribers increasing sharply to 19.9 million.
As the company exits its “Ambition 2025” strategic phase, management remains optimistic about the medium term. It has maintained guidance for service revenue growth in the mid-to-upper thirties percentage range for 2026.
“Looking ahead to 2026, MTN Ghana is well-positioned to capitalise on Ghana’s improving macroeconomic environment. Building on 2025’s performance and operational agility, we will continue to deliver value to our stakeholders,” Blewett concluded.
