Ghanaians Urged to Build Resilient Portfolios Amid Improving Economic Conditions

Economic Analyst Emmanuel Boateng has urged Ghanaians to take advantage of improving macroeconomic conditions to build modest but resilient investment portfolios.
Speaking on Business Breakfast on Zed FM, Mr. Boateng said Ghana’s economy is showing encouraging signs of stability, creating a favourable environment for cautious and practical investing.
According to him, inflation has eased significantly, the cedi has remained relatively steady, and Treasury bill yields are declining sharply, developments he describes as strong indicators that the country’s economic fundamentals are becoming more supportive.
“Today, our economy is showing strong signs of stability. Inflation is low. The cedi is steady. T-bill yields are dropping sharply,” he stated.
Mr. Boateng emphasised that for the average Ghanaian with between GH¢5,000 and GH¢30,000 to invest, the objective should not be rapid wealth accumulation. Rather, he advised individuals to focus on preserving their capital, comfortably beating inflation, and achieving moderate growth without exposing themselves to excessive risk.
“The goal is not to get rich quickly. You don’t build wealth overnight. While miracles can happen, sustainable wealth creation takes time,” he stressed.
He noted that in a period where macroeconomic conditions are stabilising and becoming more accommodating, investors must adopt a disciplined mindset. Instead of chasing quick returns, he encouraged Ghanaians to build simple, practical portfolios that protect their money while delivering steady growth.
A key principle, he added, is to begin with safety. Even with smaller amounts, diversification remains critical. Concentrating funds in a single investment exposes individuals to unnecessary vulnerability if that asset underperforms.
“Don’t put everything in one place. If you expose yourself too much to one thing and it doesn’t go well, then it will not go well with you,” he cautioned.
Mr. Boateng highlighted that the current economic environment presents an opportunity for prudent financial planning. However, he maintained that patience, caution and proper diversification must remain at the heart of any investment strategy aimed at long-term stability and growth.
