President Mahama Embarks on Three-Day State Visit to Zambia

President John Dramani Mahama will from February 4 to 6, 2026, undertake a three-day State visit to the Republic of Zambia following an invitation from President Hakainde Hichilema.
The visit forms part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic engagement between the two countries and expand cooperation in key economic and political areas. President Mahama will be accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs. Lordina Dramani Mahama.
In a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the visit was described as a significant step toward deepening Ghana–Zambia relations.
During the visit, the two leaders are expected to hold high-level bilateral discussions focused on enhancing trade and investment relations, reinforcing diplomatic ties, and exploring joint opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). The talks are also expected to touch on broader regional and continental development priorities.
A major highlight of the trip will be President Mahama’s address to Zambia’s National Assembly, where he is expected to articulate Ghana’s vision for a more unified, economically resilient and prosperous African continent. The President will also engage members of the Ghanaian community in Lusaka, interacting with Ghanaians living and working in Zambia.
The itinerary further includes a Ghana–Zambia Business Dialogue, to be jointly chaired by Presidents Mahama and Hichilema. The forum is expected to create a platform for Ghana to present its strengths in digital innovation and fintech services to Zambian businesses and public institutions, with the aim of fostering stronger economic partnerships and facilitating knowledge exchange.
According to the Presidency, the State visit underscores President Mahama’s broader commitment to building an Africa that is interconnected through efficient transport systems, expanded trade corridors, and the free movement of people, goods and services.
President Mahama has consistently championed the accelerated implementation of the AfCFTA, describing it as a critical tool for transforming African economies, creating sustainable jobs for the continent’s youthful population, and positioning Africa as a competitive player in the global economy.
He will travel aboard a special aircraft provided by the Ruler of the UAE, which will also convey the President and his delegation to Zambia for the State visit.
Ahead of the Zambia trip, President Mahama will depart Accra on Sunday, February 1, 2026, for Dubai in the United Arab Emirates at the invitation of the Ruler of the UAE to participate in the World Governments Summit 2026, scheduled for February 2 to 4.
