NBA: Golden State Warriors’ Jimmy Butler ruled out for remainder of season with ACL injury
Golden State Warriors forward Jimmy Butler has been ruled out for the remainder of the NBA season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, the club has confirmed.
The 36-year-old sustained the injury in the third quarter of the Warriors’ 135–112 regular-season victory over the Miami Heat at the Chase Center. Butler, who previously spent several seasons with the Heat before joining Golden State last season, landed awkwardly on his right knee after contesting a loose ball with Miami guard Davion Mitchell.
Despite initially remaining on the court, Butler was eventually assisted to the locker room, where medical examinations later confirmed the severity of the ACL injury, effectively ending his campaign.
The setback comes at a crucial point in the Warriors’ season, with the team having won 12 of their last 16 games and building momentum heading into the latter stages of the schedule. Butler’s absence is expected to have a significant impact on Steve Kerr’s rotation and the team’s postseason ambitions.
His injury also coincides with uncertainty surrounding the future of forward Jonathan Kuminga, who has reportedly been pushing for a trade amid concerns over limited playing time. Butler’s long-term absence could further complicate Golden State’s roster decisions as the trade deadline approaches.
Before the injury, Butler had been a key contributor for the Warriors, averaging 20 points, 5.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists across 38 appearances this season. The veteran is currently in the first year of a two-year contract valued at $111 million.
Golden State have yet to provide a timeline for Butler’s recovery beyond confirming he will miss the rest of the season, with rehabilitation expected to extend well into the offseason.
