Black Queens Climb Five Spots in FIFA Rankings After Strong Run of Form

The Black Queens have climbed five places in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings, continuing their resurgence on the international stage following an impressive series of performances over the past few months. Ghana, previously ranked 67th, now occupy the 62nd position globally, reflecting the team’s growing momentum and improved consistency.
Within Africa, the Queens have also strengthened their standing. They are now ranked third on the continent, sitting just behind long-time African champions Nigeria and reigning WAFCON holders South Africa. This places Ghana among the elite teams on the continent ahead of next year’s major competitions.
The rise in ranking comes on the back of a dominant qualification campaign for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The Black Queens sealed their place at the tournament with an emphatic 7–0 aggregate victory over Egypt, demonstrating both attacking sharpness and defensive solidity. Their only setback in recent months was a narrow loss in an international friendly against England, who are ranked fourth in the world. Despite the defeat, the match offered valuable lessons for the team as they measure themselves against top-tier opposition.
With qualification secured, attention now turns to preparations for the 2026 WAFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026. The technical team is expected to intensify training programs, strengthen squad depth and organise more high-profile friendlies to ensure the Queens enter the tournament in peak condition.
