Holy Stars defeat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in outstanding Week 3 fixture
Basake Holy Stars showed a lot of determination on Wednesday evening to overcome Asante Kotoko with a 2-1 victory in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League.
The two clubs locked horns today to clear their outstanding Week 3 fixture of the ongoing campaign. In the close contest that ensued between the two sides, both created some decent chances in the first half, but neither could find the back of the net.
Four minutes into the second half, Basake Holy Stars broke the deadlock courtesy of a strike from talisman Richmond Somiah. The home team was expected to defend better after taking the lead, but crumbled just four minutes after their goal.
Striker Kwame Poku scored in the 53rd minute, restoring parity to the game and giving Asante Kotoko a chance to push for all three points. The visiting team did mount pressure on the hosts but could not find a breakthrough. Two minutes into added time, Holy Stars stunned the Ghanaian giants with a decisive winning goal by Prince Tweneboah to claim all three points from a 2-1 victory.
The result takes Holy Stars to 10 points and closer to climbing out of the relegation zone. For Kotoko, it is a missed opportunity to go top of the league table.
