2026 FIFA World Cup: Gov’t inaugurates 11-member inter-ministerial committee

Ghana is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, with President John Mahama inaugurating an 11-member inter-ministerial committee to oversee the country’s participation.
The committee is chaired by Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Xoese Dogbe and includes Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Sports Minister Kofi Adams, Youth Development Minister George Opare, Deputy Tourism and Culture Minister Yusif Jajah, Deputy Finance Minister Ampem Nyarkoh, and GFA Chairman Kurt Okraku.
Other members include Deputy National Security Coordinator Elizabeth Yankah, former footballer Abedi Pele, and Sports Ministry Chief Director Wilhelmina Asamoah. A private sector representative will also be appointed to the committee.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sports Minister Kofi Adams emphasized the need for coordination to ensure Ghana’s successful participation, stating, “It is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the technical and all other individual components so that we do not work in silos. ” The government has allocated GH₵150 million for the tournament. The Black Stars will learn of their group opponents on December 5, 2025.
