BoG Cautions on Fragile Global Outlook Ahead of MPC Meeting

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, has cautioned that the international economic environment remains highly unsettled, urging Ghana and other emerging economies to remain vigilant as global conditions continue to shift.
Opening the latest meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), Dr. Asiama underscored the growing uncertainties shaping the world economy, stressing that global developments now demand closer attention from policymakers than at any point in recent years.
“The global environment remains fragile and we must remain alert to the risks,” he warned, noting that a mix of external pressures continues to mount and may have direct implications for emerging markets such as Ghana.
Dr. Asiama pointed specifically to persistent commodity price swings, escalating geopolitical tensions and tightening global financial conditions as key developments exerting pressure on the global economy. These forces, he explained, have the potential to spill over into vulnerable economies and undermine stability if not carefully managed.
He emphasised that Ghana must respond to these external threats with disciplined and forward-looking economic management. According to him, external shocks reinforce the importance of maintaining stability gains at home while responding quickly to changing global dynamics.
The central bank governor assured that the Bank of Ghana will continue to monitor international conditions closely, tracking economic and financial trends to guide policy decisions. He stated that the MPC remains ready to adjust its stance when necessary to protect Ghana’s macroeconomic stability and cushion the economy from global volatility.
