Kwame N. Acquah Re-Elected to FICAC Board with Overwhelming Support.
Kwame N. Acquah, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Seychelles in Ghana and Executive Secretary of the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana (HCCGH), has been re-elected to the Board of Directors of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC), receiving 39 out of 43 country votes at the 14th World Congress of Consuls held in Marrakech, Morocco, from October 29 to November 1, 2025.
The Congress brought together nearly 200 delegates from over 45 consular associations across FICAC’s 100 member states, highlighting the global significance of the event. Ghana was represented by a distinguished delegation from HCCGH, led by Dimitrios Avraam, Dean of the HCCGH and Honorary Consul General of Belgium, alongside the Honorary Consuls of Cabo Verde (Felix Gomis), Jamaica (Okatakyie B. D. Ababio), Luxembourg (Edmond Boateng), Mexico (Subhi Accad), Seychelles (Kwame N. Acquah), and Trinidad & Tobago (John Mitchell)
This marks Ghana’s second consecutive term on the prestigious international body, affirming the country’s growing influence in global consular affairs. “This re-election with such overwhelming support is a testament to Ghana’s active role in the global consular community and our commitment to fostering international cooperation. Receiving 39 votes out of 43 countries is deeply humbling and reflects the trust that the international community has placed in Ghana’s diplomatic leadership,” Acquah said.
Since his appointment as Honorary Consul of Seychelles in June 2016, Acquah has led initiatives that strengthened Ghana-Seychelles relations, including the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding in education, tourism, culture, fisheries, and health sectors during the November 2024 State Visit by President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles.
As a Board member alongside President Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos and Vice-President Asif A. Chowdhury—both re-elected unopposed for the 2025–2028 term, Acquah will continue to advocate for improved consular services and promote international dialogue.
The World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) was established in 1982 and accredited by the United Nations in 1993, FICAC is the leading global organization representing both honorary and career consuls. The next FICAC World Congress is scheduled for 2028, with Kazakhstan, India, and Mauritius bidding to host.
Founded in 1994 and a FICAC member since 1996, the Honorary Consular Corps of Ghana now represents 40 countries. Amarkai Amarteifio, Dean Emeritus of HCCGH, previously served FICAC with distinction as Director and Vice-President.
