Black Queens poised for 2026 WAFCON – Kim Lars Bjorkegren

The Black Queens are set to finish the qualifiers on a strong note despite delays in bonuses and per diems owed to the players.

Although the Ministry of Sports and Recreation has indicated that it is taking steps to ensure the players are paid, the team remains focused on their campaign.

The Queens are dedicating 100 per cent of their efforts to the 2026 WAFCON qualifiers, aiming to make a statement to the ministry and secure successive appearances at the Africa Women’s Cup of Nations.

According to Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, Ghana is confident of qualifying for the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

After leading Ghana to a 3-0 victory over Egypt in the first leg of their second-round tie, the coach expressed his delight, saying the result has put his team in a good position to secure qualification.

“You can see that we have not been together for a while. It does not connect like it did a couple of months ago. But the energy was there. I believe that we did a lot of good things, and in the end, we did well,” he said.

“In the end, a difficult away game and we won 3-0. The result is amazing. It has put us in a good position to make sure that we qualify for the next WAFCON,” he added after the game.

Since the win against Egypt last Thursday, the Black Queens have returned to Ghana to prepare for the reverse fixture scheduled for Tuesday, 28 October, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
