President John Dramani Mahama has commended China’s extraordinary economic transformation, applauding the country’s ability to lift millions of its citizens from poverty into prosperity within just a few decades.
The President described China’s success as “an inspiring model” that developing nations like Ghana can emulate in their quest for sustainable growth and industrialisation.
Speaking at the ongoing Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing, President Mahama hailed China’s achievements as a testament to the power of visionary leadership, discipline and long-term strategic planning.
He noted that the country’s commitment to innovation and reform has allowed it to transition from an agrarian economy to a global powerhouse of technology, manufacturing and infrastructure development.
“China’s transformation over the past four decades is one of the most remarkable stories in modern history. China has succeeded in lifting the greatest number of people out of poverty in the shortest possible time recorded in the history of the world. This is a story of innovation, discipline and visionary leadership,” President Mahama stated.
The President observed that China’s development path, anchored on pragmatic economic reforms, large-scale infrastructure investment and consistent state policy, offers valuable lessons for Ghana and other African nations seeking to accelerate their own development.
He emphasised that Ghana stands at a pivotal point in its economic journey, with the government’s current agenda focused on industrialisation, value addition, digital transformation and youth employment.
President Mahama underscored the need for countries in the Global South to adopt practical strategies that drive inclusive growth while maintaining fiscal stability.
“Ghana too stands at a pivotal point in our transformation. On this journey, we extend our open hand of partnership with our friends in China,” he said.
President Mahama further reiterated Ghana’s commitment to deepening its bilateral relations with China, which have grown significantly over the years through cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, trade, education and technology transfer.
He praised the Chinese government’s support for African economies, particularly through the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), which continues to promote mutually beneficial partnerships based on respect, equality and shared development.
The Presidential Investment Forum, which brought together leaders from across Africa and Asia, seeks to strengthen South–South cooperation, attract private capital and promote sustainable investment in emerging markets.
President Mahama added that Ghana’s partnership with China is “not just about aid or trade,” but about “shared aspirations to create societies driven by innovation, opportunity and dignity for all.”
