Over 1000 more pupils to benefit from School Feeding Programme
The National School Feeding Programme is expanding its coverage to include more than 1,000 students from public basic schools in rural communities that currently do not benefit from the initiative.
This expansion builds on the programme’s existing success, which currently feeds more than four million students.
National Coordinator Hajia Fati Forgor highlighted the plan during a recent visit to the Bono Region, emphasising the government’s commitment to improving education and ensuring no child goes hungry at school.
During her school visits, Hajia Fati expressed her approval of the quality and quantity of meals provided, noting that the government has settled all outstanding payments to caterers to guarantee a seamless continuation of services.
“We are committed to enhancing students’ well-being and ensuring that every child has access to nutritious meals,” the National Coordinator stated.
Heads of schools expressed their gratitude for the programme, reporting significant improvements in both school enrolment and attendance.
They noted that the reliable provision of meals has led to increased regularity in student attendance compared to previous years when nutritional support was minimal.
Selina Boatemaa, Headmistress of Police Primary and JHS, offered a positive perspective, noting the improved student participation since the programme began.
Echoing this support, Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboa fully endorsed the initiative, stressing the importance of rapidly expanding it to cover all public basic schools in the region.
“We must ensure that all our children have access to this important service, as it plays a crucial role in their education and overall well-being,” Mr Addae Akwaboa remarked.
