FDA shuts down sachet water factories in Ahafo for operating with expired licences

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has shut down several sachet water production facilities in the Ahafo Region for operating with expired licences.
The action forms part of the Authority’s ongoing enforcement exercise to ensure that only compliant businesses operate within Ghana’s regulated food and beverage industry.
According to the FDA, the affected facilities were found producing and distributing sachet water to the public without valid authorisation, in clear violation of public health and safety regulations.
A statement from the Authority on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, said the closures were necessary to protect consumers from potential health risks associated with unregulated production practices.
“We are committed to keeping consumers safe and ensuring that only compliant businesses operate,” the statement said.
The FDA also cautioned all sachet and bottled water producers across the country to renew their operational licences and strictly adhere to approved hygiene and safety standards.
It warned that any facility found operating without a valid licence or failing to meet regulatory requirements would face immediate sanctions, including closure and possible prosecution.
