Foreign Direct Investment surges to $863m in first half of 2025

Ghana recorded a remarkable 381.91 per cent surge in foreign direct investment (FDI) in the first half of 2025, with inflows hitting USD862.96 million, according to new data from the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC).

This marks a sharp rise from the USD179.07 million recorded during the same period in 2024, signalling renewed investor confidence and Ghana’s growing appeal as a global investment destination.

Between January and June 2025, the GIPC registered 76 new projects across multiple sectors, reflecting strong economic activity and an expanding industrial base.

The manufacturing sector led in project numbers, with 32 registrations, underscoring Ghana’s push for value-added production and industrialisation.

However, general trading emerged as the top contributor to FDI value, attracting USD622.92 million.

The registered projects are expected to generate approximately 4,707 direct jobs for Ghanaians once fully operational, offering a welcome boost to employment and skills development.

China led the list of investing nations with 22 projects, followed by India with 14. Nigeria contributed eight, while the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the United Kingdom each registered four.

The United States ranked sixth with three projects, while Liberia, Mauritius, Singapore and Turkey each recorded  two.

GIPC officials noted that the strong half-year performance reflects the nation’s policy reforms, improved macroeconomic stability and ongoing efforts to streamline investment processes.
