Tokyo 2025: Ghana’s Rose Yeboah secures spot in Women’s high jump final
Ghana’s high jump sensation, Rose Yeboah, has secured a place in the final of the women’s high jump event at the 2025 World Athletics Championships, after a stellar performance in the qualification round on Thursday.
The 22-year-old athlete cleared 1.92 metres, placing her 9th overall among the world’s elite high jumpers and booking her spot in the eagerly anticipated final.
The former UCC student, already celebrated as one of Africa’s queens in the discipline, delivered a composed and confident series of jumps. Her 1.92m clearance came on her second attempt, following successful first-time efforts at the preceding heights.
The mark proved good enough to see her through to the final, set to take place on Sunday, September 21.
This marks another significant milestone in Yeboah’s fast-rising career. She previously claimed gold at the 2023 African Games and the 2024 African Championships, and now stands just one competition away from making history as the first Ghanaian woman to win a field event medal at the World Championships.
The current African high jump queen becomes the first Ghanaian to make it to the final of this year’s World Championship. Yeboah’s goal now will be to inspire young Ghanaians to pursue field events in athletics.
