Ghana signs $1.5bn energy deal with ENI, Vitol

By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi

Ghana has signed a USD1.5 billion integrated strategic investment plan with Italian energy major ENI, global commodities trader Vitol, and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) to expand the country’s oil and natural gas production capacity.

The agreement, formalised during the 2025 Africa Oil Week in Accra, seeks to increase domestic gas supply and optimise crude oil output, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a key West African energy hub.

The partnership is expected to unlock new offshore gas reserves, improve processing infrastructure and strengthen Ghana’s upstream petroleum operations.

Officials say the plan will also create jobs and drive industrial growth by providing a stable supply of feedstock for power generation and industrial use.

President John Mahama, welcoming the deal, underscored the government’s pro-investment policies.

“Ghana is building a business environment that meets investors while safeguarding our national interest. The policy interventions introduced since I assumed office are yielding results,” he said, adding that the initiative aligns with the country’s long-term energy security agenda.

Energy and Green Transition Minister John Jinapor described the investment as a resounding endorsement of Ghana’s upstream potential.

“This is not just a figure on paper. It is a vote of confidence in Ghana’s upstream petroleum sector, our economy, a commitment to job creation and a catalyst for the infrastructure that will power our nation forward,” he noted.
