Kotoko coach Karim Zito eyes GPL success ahead of new season

By Lukman Mumin

Asante Kotoko coach Abdul Karim Zito has shared his target for the upcoming season following his success with the Reds last campaign.

The former Dreams FC coach led the Porcupine Warriors to an FA Cup triumph after an underwhelming spell that resulted in the sacking of Prosper Narteh Ogum.

Despite taking over in the latter stages of the campaign, Zito guided the Porcupine Warriors to a third-place finish before going on to win the President Cup and the Toyota Cup.

Ahead of the new season, the ex-Kotoko player disclosed that his main goal is to win the league, adding that anything less would be a failure.

“With Asante Kotoko, nothing less than winning the league. This is the only thing they want. They don’t even want to be second. I made a lot of success when I was playing with the team, so now I know what the team needs and how they want their team to be,” he said.

Although the Reds were far from convincing during the GHALCA Top 4, they bounced back to beat Ghana Premier League winners Bibiani GoldStars in the Champion of Champions.

Asante Kotoko will begin the season with a trip to Berekum to face Chelsea.
