Nigerian chef Hilda Baci to cook world’s biggest Jollof pot in September
Celebrated Nigerian chef and Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci has announced her next ambitious culinary challenge: “cooking the world’s largest pot of Jollof rice in September 2025”.
The event, officially tagged #GinoworldJollofFestwithHildaBaci, is being organised in collaboration with lifestyle brand @ginonaija, and will feature a massive custom-built pot measuring six metres wide and six metres tall — a feat aimed at securing another spot in the record books.
Baci, who rose to global fame after her 100-hour cook-a-thon in Lagos, shared news of the Jollof mega cook on social media, calling it the realisation of a dream that began almost two years ago.
While the exact date and location are yet to be disclosed, Hilda has confirmed the event will take place in Nigeria, with thousands expected to gather for what promises to be a festival of food, culture, and community spirit. A test run for the giant pot was successfully conducted on Saturday, 23 August, raising anticipation for the main event.
The upcoming Jollof cook-off may also stir renewed interest in the long-standing Ghana vs Nigeria Jollof rivalry, which Hilda herself waded into in November 2023 during a podcast appearance.
At the time, she declared Nigerian Jollof “superior” and criticised Ghanaian Jollof for lacking the bold flavour found in its Nigerian counterpart.
