Subject results cancelled for 119 schools as WAEC releases 2025 BECE
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the provisional results for candidates who sat the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for School Candidates.
In a statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Mr John K. Kapi, WAEC confirmed that results have been dispatched to schools via the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Directors of Education. Candidates may also access their results online through the Council’s website at www.waecgh.org.
This year’s examination saw a total of 603,328 candidates registered, comprising 297,250 males and 306,078 females from 20,395 schools nationwide.
The exams were conducted at 2,237 centres across the country. Among the candidates were 72 with visual impairment, 239 with hearing impairment, and 161 with other special needs.
However, 2,526 candidates were absent.
Irregularities and Sanctions
WAEC disclosed that several cases of examination malpractice were detected during the conduct and marking of scripts.
Following the 36th Final Awards and Examiners’ Appointment Committee meeting held on 15 August 2025, the Council has imposed sanctions on affected candidates and schools.
Subject results of candidates from 119 schools have been cancelled, while results from 87 schools have been withheld pending further investigation.
WAEC stated that withheld results may either be released or cancelled after inquiries are concluded by 6 September 2025.
Candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld are advised to visit WAEC’s irregularities portal or use the withheld/cancelled results button on the homepage for details and guidance on next steps.
Heads of schools and proprietors may also use their login credentials to check the status of affected candidates.
Public Advisory
WAEC has issued a strong warning to candidates and the general public to avoid fraudsters who claim they can upgrade results for a fee.
The Council emphasised that its results are secure and verifiable. WAEC expressed appreciation to all stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service, security agencies, heads of schools, supervisors, invigilators and examiners, for their support in ensuring the smooth conduct of the examination and timely release of results.
