Maxwell Konadu Named New Head Coach of Black Satellites
Veteran football trainer Maxwell Konadu has been appointed as the new head coach of Ghana’s National U-20 Men’s Team, the Black Satellites.
He takes over from Desmond Ofei, who will now fully focus on his role as assistant coach of the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national team.
Konadu’s appointment marks a return to the national setup, having previously served as assistant coach of the Black Stars and head coach of the Black Galaxies.
At the club level, he boasts vast experience, having coached Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Legon Cities, and most recently Nsoatreman FC. He led Nsoatreman to a historic MTN FA Cup triumph in the 2023/24 season and was recently linked with the vacant head coaching role at Accra Hearts of Oak.
The former Black Stars striker assumes leadership of the Black Satellites at a crucial moment, with the team struggling to regain momentum after failing to qualify for the U-20 World Cup since their last appearance in 2015.
Under Ofei’s tenure, the Satellites exited at the quarterfinal stage of this year’s U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. Their failure to reach the semifinals meant another missed opportunity to compete on the world stage.
