Effutu MP raises concern over two-week water shortage

Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has expressed grave concern over a severe water shortage in the Effutu Municipality, which has left residents without supply for more than two weeks.
In a letter addressed to the Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited and copied to the Minister for Works, Housing, and Water Resources, Mr. Afenyo-Markin described the situation as a humanitarian crisis that is disrupting every aspect of community life.
“This prolonged shutdown has created unbearable hardship for the population of over 140,000, and its effects are being felt across every sector of community life,” he stated.
He noted that the absence of potable pipe-borne water has had a dire impact on households, schools, health facilities, and businesses within the municipality.
“The absence of water supply has compounded sanitation challenges, heightened the risk of outbreaks of waterborne diseases, and is threatening the overall socio-economic well-being of the Municipality,” the MP stressed.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin has, therefore, called on Ghana Water Limited and the relevant authorities to provide immediate clarification on the cause of the disruption and, more importantly, indicate when an uninterrupted water supply will be restored.
“I appreciate your prompt attention to this matter and look forward to your swift response,” he stated.
