Ablekuma North MCE calls for peace, cleanliness ahead of Homowo festival
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ablekuma North, Adamu Musa Kalamu, has urged residents to maintain peace and unity as the municipality prepares to celebrate this year’s Homowo Festival.
Speaking during the maiden Homowo clean-up exercise at Odorkor Tsuimaamli, Mr Kalamu said the festival was not only a period of celebration but also an opportunity for reflection.
“As residents, we are expected to uphold peace and join in the celebrations, which serve as a reminder of community resilience and unity,” he said.
The exercise, organised by the Ablekuma North Municipal Assembly, brought together assembly members, the municipal coordinating director and management staff to address sanitation challenges in the area.
Mr Kalamu explained that the exercise formed part of efforts to promote a healthier environment.
“We need to ensure that our surroundings are clean, especially as we approach the Homowo Festival,” he stated.
Mr Kalamu, however, acknowledged difficulties encountered during the activity, particularly with shops covering gutters with concrete slabs.
“This made it challenging to desilt them, but we remain committed to ensuring that the environment is clean and healthy,” he emphasised.
According to the MCE, the Assembly had previously organised similar clean-ups at Odorkor Market and other flood-prone areas to improve drainage and waste management.
He further disclosed that partnerships had been formed with organisations to strengthen sanitation practices.
Mr Kalamu encouraged residents to take personal responsibility for their environment while stressing that peace and unity during the festival were just as important as cleanliness.
