State Funeral Set for August 15 to Honor Victims of Military Helicopter Crash
State funeral for helicopter crash victims to take place August 15
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a state funeral will be held on Friday, August 15, at Black Star Square in Accra to honor the eight individuals who lost their lives in the tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region.
Delivering a national address from Jubilee House, the President said the country will also host an Evening of Reflection and Memorial on Saturday, August 9, at 5:00 p.m. at the forecourt of the State House.
“These fallen heroes gave their lives in service to the nation. We must honor their legacy with the dignity and respect they deserve,” President Mahama stated.
Books of condolence will be opened from Sunday, August 10, to Thursday, August 14, at key locations including the Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana Armed Forces Headquarters, National Democratic Congress headquarters, and the head office of NADMO.
The eight victims, among them Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, were on an official assignment when their Ghana Air Force Z-9 helicopter crashed near Adansi Akrofuom. The state funeral is expected to be attended by senior government officials, religious leaders, members of the security services, and the general public.
