Sports Ministry gifts Black Queens $2,000 for reaching WAFCON quarter-final

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has rewarded Ghana’s Black Queens with a USD2,000 cash prize for reaching the quarterfinals of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana kicked off their campaign with a 2–0 defeat against South Africa, followed by a 1–1 draw with Mali.
However, in their final Group C game on Monday, the Black Queens secured a resounding 4–1 win over Tanzania to finish second with four points.
The result means the Black Queens have booked a place in the last eight of the tournament for the first time in nine years.
Following the win, the Sports Ministry awarded the team a financial package as additional motivation.
Ghana will face Algeria on Saturday, August 19, for a place in the semifinals of the competition.
The match is scheduled to kick off at the Stade Municipal de Berkane at 4:00 p.m.
