National Boardroom Summit launched to boost public institution governance

The inaugural National Boardroom Summit has been launched with a call for improved governance across public institutions to foster accountability, strategic decision making, and long term profitability.

The Summit, unveiled by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, is envisioned as a key platform for board members, directors, and governance experts to discuss oversight responsibilities, improve institutional leadership, and drive national economic growth.

Organized as a gathering of governance stakeholders, the event aims to equip boards with the tools, knowledge, and frameworks needed to uphold effective, transparent, and responsive governance standards.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Debrah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s socio economic framework through stronger institutional oversight and leadership.

“President Mahama wants us to reinvigorate all the things we have been doing where we feel we are relaxing. We are mindful that various institutions are providing orientation programs for their board members,” he said.

The Chief of Staff emphasized that strong boardroom governance focused on sound policies, compliance, and ethical leadership remains critical to building institutional trust, attracting investment, and achieving sustainable development.

Boardroom governance, as defined by the organizers, includes the rules, processes, and practices by which boards oversee operations, ensure compliance, and make effective and informed decisions.

The Summit is intended to serve as a center for sharing best practices, collaborative learning, and innovation in public sector leadership.

Mr. Debrah encouraged public institutions to support the vision of the Summit and actively participate in future editions.

“We encourage many people to take part in this national summit where synergies will be created, good lessons will be learned, and others will share international best practices to help you run your board effectively,” he added.

The event is expected to become an annual fixture on Ghana’s governance calendar, providing a regular opportunity to review evolving governance trends and equip board members to better align their work with national development goals.
