Kwame Opoku excited by Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup return

Asante Kotoko forward Kwame Opoku is delighted with the team’s return to African competition following their qualification for next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors secured a spot in the tournament after beating Golden Kick in the final of the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers. Opoku scored a brace in the 2-1 victory at the University of Ghana Stadium last month.

The 26-year-old played in the competition during his first spell with Kotoko, but the Kumasi-based giants only managed to reach the group stage.

“Playing in the CAF Confederation Cup boosts your morale and helps you develop as a player,” he told Asante Kotoko media.

“I believe that with us playing in Africa next season, we will do well as a team, and I, as a player, will help my team achieve whatever goals we set,” he noted.

Having rejoined the club after spells abroad with USM Alger and Olympique Club de Khourigba, the experienced forward highlighted the benefits the team will enjoy by competing at the continental level.

“That is the level I want to reach as a player because playing in Africa helps you a lot, and even your market value increases. When you are in town and talk to people, they tell you they stopped coming to the stadium, but since you have qualified for Africa, they will start coming again.

“It is a level that helps players, and for me, it is really going to be beneficial,” Opoku added.
