Cina Soul demands action after Akwes’ live TV threat

Ghanaian singer-songwriter Cina Soul, whose real name is Christie Quincyna Quarcoopome, has expressed concern and fear following a chilling threat made by Kumawood actor Big Akwes during a televised interview.

In a viral video from Bryt TV, Big Akwes was participating in a game of Kiss–Marry–Kill when he disturbingly stated that he would “kill Cina Soul.”

The actor elaborated on his comment with graphic detail, claiming he would summon her through a spiritual mirror, stab her repeatedly, and drink her blood.

Clearly shaken, Cina Soul took to her official X (formerly Twitter) account to call for action and protection, tagging the Ghana Police Service, Communications Minister Sam George, and the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation.

She wrote, “I’m deeply unsettled by this. I initially chose not to respond to earlier comments because I do not wish to be associated with this individual, but at this point, I feel genuinely threatened. I may not know the proper channels to report this, but it’s critical we take a firm stance against this kind of dangerous rhetoric being broadcast on our TV and radio platforms. We must not normalize hate.”

Her post has since sparked widespread outrage and support, with many calling for an investigation and sanctions against both Big Akwes and Bryt TV for airing the disturbing content. Social media users and advocacy groups are urging the National Communications Authority to take swift action against platforms that permit hate speech and violent commentary.

This is not the first time Big Akwes has targeted the ‘Ojorley’ singer. In April 2025, he faced public condemnation after mocking Cina Soul’s outfit in a dance video promoting her ‘Did I Lie?’ album. He accused her of being “attention-seeking” and body-shamed her appearance.

Following that incident, Max TV, where the initial commentary aired, issued a formal apology, admitting the remarks were inappropriate and uncalled for.

However, Big Akwes refused to apologize and instead urged the public to “re-analyze” the clip.

The ‘Fefenefe’ hitmaker, who rose to fame through hard-hitting tracks that captured themes of struggle and resilience, is now at the center of an online backlash after sharing videos of his culinary adventures on TikTok.

Kwesi Arthur’s latest content shows him exploring various restaurants and cafes in Accra, including The Blend Bar and Coffee Pod, where he has tasted and reviewed snacks and beverages.

The rapper explained that his interest in food is not new and that this recent content is simply an expression of a personal passion he has had since childhood. He also noted that his wife has been instrumental in recommending some of the spots he now highlights in his videos.

Despite the personal nature of the project, some fans have not taken kindly to what they see as a shift in focus away from music. Critics accuse him of abandoning his musical roots and starving fans of the kind of lyrical output that made him a household name. Others have revived the narrative that Kwesi Arthur has fallen off, claiming his newer songs are disconnected from the themes that originally drew in his core fan base.

In a video posted on TikTok, the rapper addressed the backlash, describing some of the comments as “nasty” and “evil.” He expressed disappointment at the negativity directed his way, especially when the intention behind the content was to share joy and highlight Ghana’s growing food scene.

“I will constantly show up as my whole self,” Kwesi Arthur said in the video.

He continued: “I will shine my light as God has gifted me to. I have loved food since infancy. Coming back to Accra, there are so many places that are on the level of the food joints I visit when I am outside the country. Growing up, I did not think there were many varieties to choose from in terms of food.”

Kwesi Arthur made it clear that while he understands not everyone will appreciate his new direction, he will not tolerate abuse or attempts to stifle his creativity. He emphasized that he is not abandoning music but expanding his expression and sharing other parts of himself that fans may not be familiar with.
