NIA staff to receive back pay by August after strike suspension

The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that all arrears owed to its staff for the period from January to June 2025 will be paid by the end of August.
This follows the suspension of an indefinite strike that disrupted operations across the country.
Speaking to the media, Head of Media Relations at NIA, Dorah Badu Acheampong, confirmed that payments will begin in July and be completed by August.
“The arrears from January to June will be paid in July, and staff should expect full clearance by August,” she said.
NIA staff had embarked on an indefinite strike over delays in the payment of their Operational Support Allowance. The industrial action led to a halt in services at registration and card issuance centers nationwide.
The strike was suspended on June 30 following mediation involving the National Labour Commission (NLC) and the Ministry of Finance. The NLC had earlier declared the strike illegal, stating that the divisional unions lacked the legal mandate to call for such action. It ordered staff to resume work, stressing that proper procedures had not been followed.
In compliance with the directive, NIA employees returned to work, restoring normal operations at all service centers.
The NIA has not released a specific payment schedule but assured staff that the arrears will be honored. The government is expected to work with relevant agencies to ensure that payments are made within the promised timeframe.
