IMF to evaluate cedi’s rise in future programme reviews

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced that it will evaluate the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi as part of its ongoing review of Ghana’s economic reform efforts under the Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.
The cedi has gained ground against major foreign currencies in recent weeks, reversing a long-standing trend of depreciation and sparking cautious optimism in financial markets.
Speaking at a press briefing in Washington, IMF Communications Director Julie Kozack said the Fund is closely tracking key macroeconomic indicators, including exchange rate trends, to determine whether Ghana’s economic targets remain achievable.
“As we look at the programme, we assess all developments including the exchange rate, Future programme reviews will allow our teams to carefully evaluate the evolving macroeconomic and financial conditions and confirm whether the programme’s targets remain appropriate and achievable,” the IMF Communications Director said.
