Gov’t to upgrade Nursing, Midwifery Colleges into degree institutions

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to upgrade selected nursing and midwifery colleges across the country into degree-awarding institutions as part of broader efforts to reform tertiary education and strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system.
During his Thank-You tour of the Ahafo Region on Saturday, May 31, Mr. Mahama said the next National Democratic Congress (NDC) government would prioritize educational development in underserved areas.
“We are committed to expanding access to tertiary education, especially in deprived regions. That’s why we will establish a university in the Ahafo Region focused on agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he announced.
Mr. Mahama said turning health training institutions into degree-granting colleges would enhance the training of nurses and midwives while contributing to better healthcare delivery nationwide.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to continuing the distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training institutions to ease transportation challenges and support academic operations.
