37 Military Hospital to temporarily close Emergency Unit for fumigation

By Solomon Nartey Tetteh

The 37 Military Hospital has announced the temporary closure of its Medical Emergency Unit (MEU) to carry out a comprehensive fumigation exercise aimed at promoting public health and ensuring environmental hygiene.

The fumigation will take place from Wednesday, June 4, to Saturday, June 14, 2025, as part of a proactive effort to maintain a sterile and safe environment for patients and healthcare workers.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant R.K. Kotoku on behalf of the Acting Director General of Public Relations of the Ghana Armed Forces, the hospital informed the public about the temporary closure and advised residents to seek emergency medical care at alternative facilities in Accra during the 10-day period.

Emergency cases will be redirected to hospitals such as Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital), Police Hospital, and LEKMA Hospital.

Lieutenant Kotoku assured the public that special arrangements have been made to ensure entitled personnel continue to receive emergency medical services. These patients will be treated at the Trauma Surgical Emergency Unit (TSEU), which will remain fully operational throughout the fumigation period.

Hospital authorities stressed that the measure is necessary to maintain high standards of hygiene and infection control, while minimizing disruption to critical care services for eligible patients.

The management of 37 Military Hospital expressed sincere regret for any inconvenience caused and appealed for the public’s cooperation and understanding during this important exercise.
