Women suffer emotional harm under pressure to stay strong – Wellness advocate

Women’s wellness advocate and mother, Roseline Nana Dede Addo, has raised concerns about the cultural expectation that women must always appear strong, warning it is causing emotional harm to many.

In Ghanaian society, the image of a strong woman is widely celebrated—as the backbone of the family, the silent warrior behind every success, and the tireless nurturer bearing emotional and financial burdens with grace.

Speaking on Business Breakfast on Zed FM on Thursday, Ms. Addo shed light on the quiet struggles many women face under the weight of these expectations. She explained that women often suffer in silence because they are conditioned to be resilient and discouraged from speaking openly about their pain.

“Our culture teaches women to endure, not to complain. But this silence is hurting them,” she said.

Ms. Addo called for a more compassionate approach to women’s well-being—one that allows vulnerability, encourages open conversations, and redefines strength beyond silent suffering.
