Use Common Fund wisely or face dismissal – Mahama tells MMDCEs

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the imminent release of the first quarter allocation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), with a stern warning to Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to use the funds responsibly.
The President made the announcement during his Thank-You tour of the Bono East Region on Friday, May 30, amid growing pressure from the Minority in Parliament, who have accused the Finance Minister of failing to release statutory funds despite available resources.
President Mahama stressed that the funds must be used efficiently at the local level and warned that poor utilization could cost MMDCEs their positions.
“The Minister of Finance is about to release the first quarter of the District Assemblies Common Fund. As I’ve indicated, 80% of the money is going directly to the regions, and you will determine how to use it. So, MMDCEs, you have no excuse,” he said.
He revealed that strict Cabinet-approved guidelines will be issued to direct the use of the funds, and MMDCEs will be evaluated based on their adherence to these rules.
“We will send you the guidelines approved at the last Cabinet meeting to show how the funds should be disbursed. This will serve as your Key Performance Indicator (KPI),” President Mahama added.
