Tourism Minister charts path for culturally-driven, profitable sector

The Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture has reaffirmed her commitment to building a culturally grounded and economically sustainable tourism sector during a working visit to the Volta Region.

In her remarks, the Minister emphasised that the Ministry’s mandate remains inclusive and centered on policies that harness Ghana’s cultural heritage for national development. She acknowledged former President John Dramani Mahama for laying the foundation of Ghana’s modern tourism structure, particularly through the establishment of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.

She noted that the effectiveness of leadership in the tourism sector should be measured by visionary policies and impactful programmes rather than institutional titles alone.

As part of her itinerary, the Minister visited several notable tourist sites, including the Volta Regional Museum, Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary, Wli Waterfalls, and the ‘No Man’s Land’ enclave at the Ghana-Togo border.

At Tafi Atome, she encouraged local communities to take ownership of tourist attractions by investing in their maintenance and development, adding that such efforts would boost both domestic and international tourism.

Accompanied by her Deputy Minister, Hon. Yussif Issaka Jajah, the Minister also engaged border officials on the need to enhance security and surveillance in the enclave to curb illegal crossings and preserve the integrity of the area. The visit forms part of the Ministry’s broader strategy to promote tourism at the regional level and support infrastructure development across key cultural and ecological sites.
