The Managing Director of Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), Adam Mutawakilu, says the company operates one of the most advanced water quality laboratories in West Africa.
Speaking in a media interview on the quality of water supply in Ghana, Mr. Mutawakilu said the facility plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and quality of water supplied to Ghanaians.
“Our laboratory is one of the best in West Africa,” he stated. “It is capable of testing for a wide range of parameters to ensure that the water we supply meets both local and international standards.”
He explained that the laboratory supports GWCL’s daily operations by monitoring and analyzing water samples from various treatment plants and distribution points across the country, helping to detect and address any potential contamination.
Mr. Mutawakilu stressed that the company’s commitment to water safety and quality is unwavering, adding that significant investments have been made in personnel training and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the laboratory remains a center of excellence.
He also called on the public to protect water bodies and avoid practices that pollute natural sources, warning that such actions increase the cost and complexity of water treatment. The engagement brought together representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Ghana Standards Authority, and other sector stakeholders to discuss strategies for enhancing water quality and sustainability nationwide.
